What took place at the romantic trip back to the Renaissance festival in Sterling, NY?
Nothing happened. The article titled “Romantic day trip back to the Renaissance in Sterling, NY” that appeared in the Rochester Day Trips Examiner on July 8 simply recommends the Renaissance Festival as a possible romantic trip: Feeling a little romantic m’lord? Need a little fantasy in your relationship m’lady? Then don your gown and kirtle or your doublet and breeches and make haste down Route 104 to Sterling, New York this weekend where you can woo your amour with a Lover’s Picnic Basket at the Bad Dog Tavern and then light out to see Shakespeare presenting “The Lunatic, the Lover, and the Poet.” Or, if you have been wed many a year, perhaps you would like to partake in the Renewal of Vows ceremony at the Chapel? This is not your average “Ren Faire;” these gentlefolk know how to do it up right. This weekend is just one of several during this, the Sterling Renaissance Festival’s 33rd season. This is not your average “Ren Faire;” these gentlefolk know how to do it up right. This weekend is just one of several during this, the Sterling Renaissance Festival’s 33rd season. The theme park, which is open from July 4 through August 16, has grown from very humble beginnings. When I visited the first time in 1979, there were but a few roughly-hewn stages and a few vendors but the festival has grown to encompass an impressive 12 stages, a 35 acre “interactive/environmental theatre,” an arts and crafts festival, real jousting tournaments, food festivals and the aforementioned Bad Dog Tavern. You can rent costumes if you have a mind to get swept up in the whole theme thing, or you can just become part of the strolling public in the English village of Warwick, where Queen Elizabeth I is visiting.
