Quinceanera, or quince anos, parties date back to the Mayan and Aztecan societies. During this time, 15-year-old girls were considered old enough to wed and to take on adult responsibilities, so the right-of-passage birthdays were commemorated with huge celebrations. Although times have changed, quinceaneras are still celebrated in Latin American cultures. These coming-of-age ceremonies usually take place at the honoree’s home or at a special event venue, and reception decor often resembles that of a wedding.
