What to feed my 12 week GSD puppy Royal Canin puppy or James Wellbeloved puppy?
My advice to you would be NOT to use Royal Canin. If you check, it has a very high protein count, which, from first-hand experience, is not a good idea for a puppy of a big breed. More is not necessarily better, and I have a youngster, reared to just about 4 months on Royal Canin (the variety he was on was 32% protein), who has gone totally wrong (joints and growth plate problems – he just got way too big, too fast). Could of course be down, in part, to his breeding, but knowing that, I seriously doubt it, as does my vet. I had him onto Burns Puppy food at 24% as soon as I realised what was going on (hugely expensive set of x-rays, front to back) and by 6 months, reduced him to their adult version (as recommended) at 18.5% I think we’ve managed to bring him back from the brink, but he is left with front end problems which he’ll always have. Makes me weep. James Wellbeloved, of the two, would definitely be my choice. Add – Just to say everybody is entitled to their opinion as to whether
