What to do with an entire crate of Asian Pears?
Question: I was given an entire crate of Asian pears. What can I do with them? Canning, jams, chutney, please help! Thanks! – BG, (09/19/03) Reply: I tried a recipe for Asian Pears in Ginger-Vinegar Syrup last year and discovered that no one else in my family would eat it. Maybe you’ll have better luck! Most varieties of Asian Pears keep well when refrigerated. They’re very good eaten fresh out of hand, or added as an accent to green salads. I have also used them in chili (believe it or not). Sauted with onion and garlic they caramelize beautifully and contribute some sweetness that helps mellow out a hot chili dish! Please do pass on to us any good recipes you’ve come up with and my apologies for this late reply.
