What to do with a dead snail?
You “think” it is dead? Smell the snail, snails have a distinct smell when they are dead. And if you haven’t smelled a dead snail before, you don’t have to know the smell, to smell a dead snail and know. If the trapdoor is loose, or if he popped out of his shell, he is indeed dead. If you want to keep the shell, and the snail is loose and dead. Get a cup of water and move the shell up and down, until the body pops out. You can than throw the snail body in the trash, or in your yard. Wash the shell with water(no soap,no bleach), and pop it back in the tank or do whatever you want with it. If you just want to get rid of the snail and shell, just throw it in the garbage.
My snail died and since the body part was gone, and just the shell stayed, I washed out all the nasty stuff and put it back in the tank. I’ve buried other ones before. If I were you, I would just wash it and put it back in as a decoration. The color stays too which is nice. If the body is still in there, then remove the little disk thing in the opening of the shell and pick out the body with a fork or something. Throw out the body and disk. If you want to keep the shell than wash that and put it in the tank otherwise throw that out too. I have some cory cats that love to eat whatever treasures it holds so maybe buying a few of those could help. Another option would be to put him in a paper bag or something and store him in the freezer until you can find a place to dispose of it properly if you don’t want to keep him in the tank. This works well in the winter months so that if you can’t break the ground to bury him if theres absolutely nothing else you can do with him. Good luck!
