What to do for a bulging disk causing pain?

Yep, exercising will help strengthen the back muscles so your spine lines up better. But here’s the real problem. You can never get into an MRI when you are hurting the most so they can see it’s bulging onto a nerve. I don’t want to freak you out but the chances are that disc will eventually rupture and that’s when the pain will be unbearable and then surgery. BUT….my mom did intensive physical therapy to strengthen her back muscles and her disc never blew and it hardly bothers her anymore. Just be sure to be extra careful when you have to bend over for any reason, that will cause they disc to herniate or rupture more then people think. I had back surgery and regretted it for 9 months. But once it healed it was the best thing I ever did. I was ready for the physical pain of back surgery but the emotional part was the hardest. I couldn’t even bend forward an 1/8th of an inch. My mom had to change my underwear. It sucked. So give physical therapy a real shot.

When you stand up and both legs give way under you, so you end up crumpled on the ground, holding onto your private parts as if you are about to give birth, then you know you have serious extreme pain from a bulging disc, because the bulge has hit and is sat on the nerve roots to your legs. Until then exercise is the best treatment. They will only operate if the disc hits the nerve roots and you loose your bowel and bladder function, so best you realize now you will be in pain for many years, exercise.

So, I am REALLY frustrated right now. I have had multiple x-rays, doctor visits, and chiropractic visits to find out the cause of an extreme hip and lower back pain (most extreme when I am lying down). The x-rays showed nothing. I just had an MRI and my General doctor told me I have a bulging disk, but it is not pushing on any nerves and so it should not cause pain. He told me to “Exercise” and that would be the best remedy.
