What to do about friend who is aimlessly writing poetry?

Nobody aimlessly writes poetry. It is a form of expression. It is a place to bare the soul. It is not always for public viewing as sometimes it is just liberating to see your emotions and thoughts in ink. This should be encouraged, not surpressed. So the answer, in my humble opinion is, leave them to write. If you feel that what they are writing is of a high standard, encourage them to share it, but don’t force them. Not everyone is comfortable with presenting their soul for judgement. Some people just write as a therapy exercise. That is an aim in itself. If you are not a poet, you cannot comprehend fully, the mind of one.
