I also live on the east coast =] what you do is you should eat a big dinner before sunset on Friday. Once the sun sets, you must start fasting unless you are younger and haven’t had your bar/bat mitzvah yet. Yom Kippur ends on sunset of Saturday. Which is when you can break the fast.
