What things should I look for when comparing ePub conversions?
At the very least, your ePub book should look consistent from iPad to Sony to mobile phones. Your chapter titles should look smart and each chapter should start on a new page. (You’d be surprised how few services meet that basic expectation.) Maybe add little flair, like a drop cap to start each chapter and image decorations for your chapter headings. Many skip this programming step, leaving you with a generic ePub logo where the big publishers have their cover art. Last, your book’s info, including Author, Publisher, ISBN and Description, should be embedded in the ePub format’s metadata, so it appears in indexes, searches and libraries.
