What theory supports an interest group explanation of politics?
Pluralism-All political action can be explained as interaction, competition, and compromise among interest groups. The theory provides for a more democratic explanation because the end result leads to compromise. What are the two main components of pluralism? 1) Power is shared amongst a number of different political, social, and economic groups. 2) No one group dominates the system. Do you think that pluralism offers an accurate depiction of politics? No, 1/3 of the population has no organizational group membership at all. 1/2 affiliated to non-politically relevant social group. 15% belong to a group that is politically relevant to some degree.
