• The duration of the study was of three years and 23 diabetic patients were the participants. • As many as 57 studies were carried out on these patients to observe the effectiveness of single photon emission tomography and computed tomography (SPECT/CT) imaging techniques. • These techniques were used to look for either infection in the bone or in soft tissues or both. • Bone marrow scans were also carried out to look for infection in the mid or hind foot sections. • The study found that dual diagnostic technique of SPECT/CT was highly successful in diagnosing infection caused in foot owing to diabetes. • In 84 percent cases, the diagnosis done by these techniques jointly were used to determine the course of the treatment. • Risk of amputation of the limbs also reduced drastically as the infection was better managed than earlier with the help of these techniques.
