What the… Joaquin Phoenix is retiring?
At a benefit on Monday, Joaquin Phoenix casually dropped some very shocking news. “I want to take this opportunity,” he said, “to give you the exclusive and just talk a little bit about the fact that this will be my last performance as an actor. I’m not doing films anymore.” When a stunned reporter asked the two-time Oscar nominee if he was serious he replied, “Yeah. I’m working on my music. I’m done. I’ve been through that.” His rep confirmed. The 34-year-old was nominated for an Academy award for his jarringly accurate portrayal of Johnny Cash in 2005’s “Walk the Line” as well as his supporting role in “Gladiator.” His last movie will be the upcoming romantic drama, “Two Lovers,” costarring Gwyneth Paltrow. Unless Joaquin pulls a Jay-Z and comes back from an early retirement, the only way we’ll see him now is performing with British band The Charlatans. No more talented, handsome Joaquin on the big screen. Consider us bummed.
