What the hell is an omnyouji?
An omnyouji is a sort of a spirtiualist. The best Western example I’ve found is something like a medium, which is a pretty poor comparison. An omnyouji is a ying-yang magician who’s powers and beliefs lie in Taoism. I know very little about actual omnyouji (although I do know there are modern omnyouji), but they balance the forces of dark and light based on a system of five base “elements” – gold, fire, earth, wind, and water. Gold and fire belong to the “dark” omnyouji, water and wind to the “light” omnyouji, and earth is shared between them. Most of what’s used in the story is completely fabricated though.
