Yes you are right. We will NEVER completely understand the universe. Anyway, an electromagnetic wave is a wave that can travel without a medium. An example of electromagnetic wave is light. It travels from the sun to earth without any medium (space is vacuum). Light has dual nature as particle and wave because it exhibits interference and diffraction (wave properties) but also exhibits pressure and can bump electrons (sub-atomic particles) out of their orbit. Matter has been reportedly exhibiting wave-like properties, too, specifically electrons. And no, Physicists aren’t paid to tell us this things. They try to explain the universe because they want to.
