What the blazes is the NHL up to regarding the Phoenix Coyotes?

They are hoping that they can secure the team in Phoenix, and prevent Jim Balsillie from acquiring the team by making the highest bid in the bankruptcy hearing, because they don’t much care for him and he has stated his goal of moving the team to Southern Ontario, which they aren’t really happy with. The NHL hopes that if they can secure the team and get through the bankruptcy hearing, one of the other potential buyers, who aren’t offering as much as Balsillie will still buy the team and keep it in Phoenix. It’s a big stakes game and will certainly involve a lot of litigation, probably doing a good amount of damage to the NHL. It’s up in the air right now, and I’m secretly rooting for another team in Canada. Though it may seem unassailable to outsiders, popularity of hockey in Canada is waning as of late, and soccer (I know, I know) is set to make quite a mark.
