What temeratures inside teh Earth are HOT enough to melt rock?
The temperature at which a rock begins to melt depends on the composition of a rock (materials), how much water there is in the rock, and the pressure that the rock is subjected to. more fluid content inside a rock = easier to melt. high pressure = higher temperature required to melt. GENERALLY, 1000+ Celcius = melting. this is a very rough rule of thumb, as rocks can melt as low as 600c… this is ABOUT the transition from metamorphism into igneous regime this temperature is present inside the earth, below the crust. as you go deeper into the earth there is an increase in temp. there are also heat sources from existing magmatic bodies.
