What team won the first game of the NAIA World Series?”
No.1 Lubbock Christian University became the first team since 2001 to hit five home runs in a game at the Avista NAIA World Series Saturday afternoon, and Rene Garcia, Shane Karnbach, Kevin Burns and Shawn Greer combined for a four-hit shutout, as the Chaparrals defeated No.10 Lee University 11-0 at Harris Field. The Chaps (48-7) now remain in the winners’ bracket with the win and they will face Berry College Monday at 5 pm (CST). Garcia pitched a strong scoreless six innings, allowing just one hit and striking out seven batters. Elvis Sosa, who hit two of the four hits for Lee, broke up Garcia’s no-hit bid in the fifth inning with no outs. He was the 15th batter Garcia faced. Sosa’s hit gave Lee life after they were trailing 8-0. It placed runners on the corners with nobody out, but Garcia was able to manage through the jam. Garcia forced Chris Dubon into flying out into shallow centerfield (too shallow for sacrifice tag-up attempt), and then struck out Jeff Ramirez and Trey Burstrom
