A. The Department is currently considering, with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, whether a requirement for a teaching qualification on functional skills would be appropriate for the FE and adult learning workforce. At the moment, teachers of Key Skills and Skills for Life qualifications can teach functional skills. We would encourage functional skills to be embedded within courses but we would expect this to be done in collaboration with a functional skills specialist to ensure the consistency and standards of functional skills teaching and learning.
