What takes precedence: Education YES! or NCLB?
Michigan’s Education YES! is a broader effort that looks at much more than just test scores. It includes performance indicators and many measures beyond a single test on a single day. In many cases NCLB may be more demanding because it looks at issues including subgroup performance and participation in testing. There will be many instances where Education YES! and NCLB will be in agreement. There may be situations where a school will be accredited under Education YES! even though the school has not made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under NCLB. There is no conflict between NCLB and Education YES! – both have the goal of high levels of achievement by all students.
