What systems were serious contenders?

The two main contenders were Blackboard Learn and Moodle because these systems already have users on campus, so a community is available for either. Other contenders were Blackboard Angel, Desire2Learn and Sakai. Blackboard Angel is being discontinued in 2014. Desire2Learn is another viable commercial product, but we don’t have wide experience with it on campus and a short time to migrate platforms. Sakai’s community is smaller than Moodle’s, and this open source LMS has no current presence on campus.
