What system did richard arkwright invent?
Born 1732 – Died 1792 Richard Arkwright is usually credited for inventing the spinning frame, later renamed the water frame following the transition to water power. He invented a spinning machine that spun fibers into strong threads of any desired thickness. Since it was too large to be operated by hand, Arkwright built a mill powered by horses and then a larger mill driven by waterpower. The machine became known as the water frame. (In 1785 he switched to steam power.) As a result of moving the manufacture of cloth out of homes and into mills, Arkwright has been called the father of the factory system.
