I believe it was the Trojan Horse, which the Greeks left on the beach of Troy (as an offering to the Gods) after supposedly retreating back to Greece. The Trojans brought the horse into the city in the hopes of using the giant horse as a way to gain favor from the gods for themselves. In the middle of the night, the Greeks climbed out of the giant horse and ransacked the city, effectively ending the Trojan War. Many incorrectly believe the Trojan Horse was actually a gift from the Greeks (a token of peace) rather than an offering to the gods, resulting in the phrase “Beware of Greeks bearing gifts”.
