What styles of martial arts are taught in Bushi Kai Shorinji?
The most effective fighters in nature are the animals and some insects. Many of the styles taught in BKS come from these various animal and insect styles. These include (but are not limited to) the Tiger, Praying Mantis, Bird and Crane styles. Drunken style and some other classical styles are also taught. Most of these styles have empty hand forms (kata) and weapons forms. As was mentioned previously, our students are taught the soft styles (internal) along with the hard (external) styles, and, we include the classical weapons. So, whether you initially learn forms from the Longfist style, Tiger or even the Bird you can count on mixing empty hand and weapons training, as well as a heavy dose of grappling. We do not ignore the basic elements or fundamentals you need to develop as a martial artist, but we also provide substantial material in advanced level training to allow you to reach your potential and also become an effective fighter.
