The chemistry department hosts three student organization for undergraduate students. The Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society (SAACS) is open to all students interested in chemistry. This organization hosts external speakers to discuss careers in chemistry, attending graduate school, and other topics of interest to chemists. SAACS also is involved with activities sponsored by the Alabama section of the American Chemical Society. The other active organization in the department is the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE). This organization seeks to foster professional development and provide opportunities for underrepresented groups in science and engineering. Gamma Sigma Epsilon is a national honorary organization for chemistry majors (see #29).
