Convey an objective manner when asking questions related to suspected abuse. Always ask questions privately, when no one else is in the room with the patient. If the patient denies help, provide her with information that she may use at a later time. Provide information to womens shelters and social service agencies that assist abused women. Remember to provide information very discreetly, so the abuser does not find the information. Reinforce that help is available when she is ready to accept it.
