What steps is the district taking to save money?
Over the last eight years, the district has cut many millions of dollars from its ongoing budget. More than $7 million in cuts were made in 2010-11 alone, including raising class sizes for grades K-3 and 9 (which involved laying off teachers); streamlining central office operations; laying off counselors; and requiring all employees, including teachers and administrators, to take 8 furlough days per year (more than any other district in Alameda County).
