What steps does San-J take for gluten free products?
San-J does not add any gluten ingredients to San-J gluten free products. The alcohol used in these products is derived from corn or sugarcane. San-J is aware of the sensitive nature that exists for celiacs and those who suffer from gluten intolerance. Since our facilities processes other products containing wheat, San-J has implemented specific sanitation methods in an effort to prevent cross contamination of wheat in our gluten free products. In addition, we test each batch of gluten free products for the presence of gluten. Samples are also periodically sent to an outside laboratory as a means of confirming the reliability of our tests. Currently, the FDA has not finalized a definition or threshold for the term gluten free nor has it developed a set of rules permitting its use. However, it has proposed a standard of less than 20 ppm for gluten free foods. San-J gluten free products test at less than 5 ppm.
