Take Chemistry, Biology, and Physics in High School. Be good in math and get good grades and test scores. Volunteer in a hospital or free clinic. Spend some time in a cardiac lab assiting in research. In college, meet with your premed counsellor early and often. Get good grades. Get great MCATs. Go to the best Medical School you can afford. Spend more time volunteering. Really understand what it is you are getting yourself into and why you want to do it. Do NOT do it for the money or the prestige. Both of those are going away fast. Do not do it if you are lazy or like to spend lots of time partying with friends. You will have to give up the better part of a decade in this quest, and that’s AFTER medical school. In medical school, meet the cardiothoracic surgeons, round with them, go to their conferences, work in their labs. Do extremely well in everything. Get into the best General Surgery residency that you can. Again, meet your future mentors early. Keep in touch with your mentors fr
