What steps are involved in opening a new restaurant in the state of Kansas?
A representative of the restaurant must contact the KDHE Food Safety Program at (785) 296-5600 to determine who their inspector will be. Once the inspector is contacted, a planning consultation and/or inspection can be scheduled. At this time, the inspector will provide valuable information concerning licensing requirements and food safety. A plan review along with a proposed menu will be valuable information during this consultation. When the owner feels that the necessary requirements are met, an on-site licensing inspection is conducted. The owner must complete the food service application and submit it, together with the appropriate fees. When KDHE receives the completed application, fees, and a ‘passed’ licensing inspection, the food service license is issued.
