What state has the highest minimum wage?
The state with the highest minimum wage rate is Washington. The minimum wage rate in Washington is $8.25 per hour for both agriculture and non-agriculture jobs. It is important to note, however, that individuals who are 14- or 15-years old may be paid only 85% of the minimum wage, or $7.27 per hour. The federal minimum wage rate (according to the Fair Labor Standards Act), effective July 24, 2009, is $7.25 per hour. Therefore, residents of the state of Washington are actually receiving a wage rate above the federally required minimum.
