What started the 3000 mile oil change mantra?
After World War II, existing engine and oil technologies required more frequent oil changes of around 3000 miles. Despite the dramatic progress in both engine and oil technologies over the past half century, this conservative specification has been perpetuated by the self interests of oil manufacturers, auto dealers, auto repair shops and oil change companies.
