What standards are applicable to public safety comm centers?
A. The only standards that apply, really, are those by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) for fire comm centers. There are no national standards from the government or other organizations. Here the applicable NFPA standards, which are available for a fee from the group: NFPA 1061 – Professional Qualifications for Public Safety Telecommunicator NFPA 1221 – Installation, Maintenance, and Use of Emergency Services Communications Systems You might also review some of the other standards if you’re building a new comm center, relating to life safety, fire protection for computer and information systems, lightning protection, etc.
