What sport was the Columbus Crew Stadium built for and when was it built?
The Columbus Crew Stadium was Marjor League Soccer’s (MLS) first soccer-specific stadium. The stadium was built in 1998-1999 and at the time there was a lot of skepticism as to whether or not MLS would last. However, Columbus Crew founder Lamar Hunt and Hunt Sports Group had faith and put up the money to build the stadium after two prior tax issues to build it had failed. Thanks to their vision and their willingness to take a chance, Columbus Crew Stadium is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. To celebrate the anniversary the Columbus Crew will host the Kansas City Wizards for a game on Saturday.
