What are the uses for the types of film? What is Film? Film is the way that a traditional camera records an image. When the shutter is activated in a camera, it opens for a certain amount of time and exposes the film with the light. At this point the film is chemically altered to show the way that the light hit the film. This in turn records the image. When developed the film shows the image visibly, allowing you to print the image onto photographic paper. What Types Of Film Are Available? There are two major types of film: negative print and positive slide. The most widely used type of film is negative print film. When the film is exposed, the image is recorded as a negative image. It is then printed on to photographic paper. The other type of film, positive slide, records a positive image. Color positive film is often referred to as slide film. When the film is exposed it literally records the actual image onto the film, and is able to be viewed, after development, without photograph
