What specifically will the ATSDR and NC DHHS do next to give the community and individuals some useful information about the symptoms I might be experiencing from TDI exposure?
The study will not show if any respiratory (breathing) problems are related to possible exposure to TDI. The study will evaluate whether a group of people living near a place that uses TDI has the same pattern of respiratory health problems compared to a group of people who live farther away. If it appears that people near a TDI source show more respiratory problems than people living farther away, or if more indicators of possible TDI exposure are found in the blood of people living close to a TDI source compared to those farther away, then the state Division of Health will work with the local health departments, the North Carolina Division of Air Quality, and the company using TDI to take steps to see if there is a problem. If you think you have a health problem that may be due to exposure to TDI, you should consult your personal physician. Your symptoms may be due to another problem.
