What sounds do alpacas make?
Alpacas communicate with one another by using humming sounds which normally range in volume from barely audible to something about the loudness of a goat kid blating. The low, almost non-audible hums are the norm for most alpacas. However, these low hums can escalate into the combination of a growl and a scream if one alpaca gets annoyed with another one. They also make a sound similar to a donkey braying, but louder and shriller than a donkey, which is used to tell the herd that danger is near and they should be on alert. The males also make an orgling sound during the mating process. This orgling is thought to help get the female in the mood for mating and to induce her to produce an egg for fertilization.
