What sorts of purposes can/should I use UW Windows Live and UW Google Apps for?
These cloud services fall under the general category of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and therefore are primarily oriented to individual use and team collaboration. They are great for personal productivity, communication, document-sharing, and collaboration across many teaching, research, or administrative functions. These services are NOT appropriate for addressing data storage needs of departments or other organizational business units, nor are they appropriate for programmatic sharing of large automated datasets. Note: There are other for-fee cloud services such as Amazon Web Services (S3) or Microsoft Azure that may serve organizational needs to store institutional data.
