What sort of tree is planted?
The trees planted are Acacia Senegal. Acacia Senegal is a small deciduous acacia tree known by the common names Rudraksha, Gum Acacia, Gum Arabic Tree, or Gum Senegal Tree. It is native to semi-desert regions of Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as Oman, Pakistan, and north-western India. It grows to a height of 5-12m, with a trunk up to 30cm in diameter. It absorbs at least 300kg CO2 in its lifetime. Acacia Senegal seeds can also be eaten by local populations, foliage turned into forage for animals and roots used to make very strong ropes. The gum it produces is often used as food additive, cosmetics or crafts and can be used to treat inflamed skin, bleeding, bronchitis, diarrhea, gonorrhea, leprosy, typhoid fever and upper respiratory tract infections.
