What sort of technology and resources are needed to implement SSA?
Precursor SSA services are being established by grouping together existing national assets, e.g. radars and optical sensors for surveillance and tracking, as well as sensors already in orbit, such as solar radiation detectors mounted on current European satellites. In parallel, development of essential components of the full SSA system is underway. The use of existing and available national assets in the construction of a European integrated system is compliant with the principles expressed in the European Space Policy (ESP).
