What sort of symptoms occur in migraine aura?
Migraine aura can affect vision (visual aura), sensation (sensory aura), strength (motor aura) or speech (dysphasic aura). The symptom depends which part of the surface of the brain is affected. Most commonly the visual area is affected. Symptoms of visual aura The classical symptom of migraine aura is a visual disturbance. This usually takes the form of blurring of vision, often with zig-zag shapes, or flashing lights or dots or blobs of darkness or colour. Usually they start in the edge of the field of vision. Over the course of a few minutes they spread into view and can sometimes completely cover your visual field completely. If you cover one eye during a migraine visual aura, you can sometimes see better to one side than the other. Usually the visual disturbance builds to its worst over about 10-15 minutes and pereists for upto an hour or so.
