What sort of rifles were used in the dads army tv series?
The specific Enfield being used it is the No4 MkI or a No4 MkII rifle. I cannot tell which because the two rifles look too similar to tell from distance. The show could used either. I how know this by looking to specific features from pictures of the rifles, and watching the Dad’s Army on Youtube. The specific episode was called Battle School FULL EPISODE Part 1/3. This what the title was on Youtube. At the time of 5:23 we can the Sgt holding his rifle. Notice the lack of clean rod stick out at the end. This eliminates the model Lee-Metford MkI. (Check the website listed for pictures of Enfield) Also notice the long barrel of rifle past the front sight. This eliminates models No1 MkV and SMLE MkIII. The No1 MkV and SMLE MkIII had shorter barrel past front sight. And end of the barrel and end of stock are the same length. Giving the rifle a box looking outline. The rifle the Sgt. is holding does not have this.
