What sort of legal advice does the Musicians Union give to its members?

Union Rules stipulate that legal advice and assistance are provided “under such criteria as are established by the Executive Committee” and where appropriate claims are considered individually on a case by case basis. The Union’s legal advice and assistance scheme (“the Scheme”) is accessed initially through your Regional Organiser and further details will be provided on application. It will depend on the nature of the request as to how your matter is then dealt with. If advice only is required, whether music business or legal, this may be provided by the most appropriate expert within the Union, or obtained from any one of a number of external experts such as the Contracts Advisory Service or Partnership Advisory Service, dealt with by one of the Union’s retained firms of specialist solicitors. Legal Assistance is available to all members who meet the EC’s criteria. The Scheme covers disputes over a member’s music-related contracts, disputes over engagement or employment as a musician
