What sort of labels can be used for time-gated imaging?
There are several types of label that can have long luminescence decay times and hence are suitable for lifetime-gated imaging. Most organic fluorophores have lifetimes of less than 10ns so any label with a lifetime much longer than this can be detected with at least some suppression of background signals. There are few commonly used fluorescent labels that have relatively long lifetime.
