What sort of dog is best for a small rural house.?
The Dog Whisperer has some good points. Your dog should be a good size for your house; small house, small dog. After size, the character of the dog is important. Do you have time for exercising the dog? Do you have a fenced yard? All dogs need exercise, some more than others. We have Schipperkes which are small, the females (recommended sex) are about 12-14# and they are very affectionate, almost like a cat.
