Yep, the song is “This Woman’s Work” and it’s often interpreted as being about giving birth (from a man’s perspective) and Mike is a brand new father. The original song was written and performed by Kate Bush. It became popular in the late 80s when it was featured in the movie “She’s having a baby” starring Kevin Bacon. However, Maxwell covered the song in the late 90s and added a soulful vibe that became very popular, as well. In my opinion, he helped hone the original interpretation of the song in a way only a man of his talent could. The version Mike sang last night was closer to Maxwell’s version of the song.. I think Kara cried because it’s relevent to his life and the recent birth of his child, as she said. As she said tonight she felt his connection to the song transcended. It wonderful to see a man sing such a powerful and emotional song that is both humbling and uplifting.
