What snake would make the best pet?
I’ve found corn snakes ( elaphe guttata guttata), also called red rat snakes, are an ideal pet for a beginner. They are hardy, good eaters that generally have a pleasant disposition and are easily handled. They are also very attractive snakes with many color variations available. These snakes range from southern Jersey into Florida so they do well in a variety of climates and humidity is not a problem.
