What smoking cessation interventions should I offer a smoker who has had a myocardial infarction?
• Assess if the person is willing to quit. • If not, record in notes, and review in a year. • If yes, offer a referral to an NHS Stop Smoking Service. • If they do not want a referral, offer drug treatment (nicotine replacement therapy, bupropion, or varenicline) and support. • If they refuse drug treatment, but are still serious about quitting, provide advice and written supporting material.
