What smaller fish can I pair with a bubble-eyed goldfish?
Gold fish like unheated water. Your 1 1/2 gallon tank is way too small for anything. A twenty gallon tank is your bet bet. I have a 25 gallon tanks with three goldfish and two gold algae eaters. You will need a good filtration system for your fish as gold fish are prolific eaters and need to have a clean tank. The reason for a 20 gallon tank is that peripherals for the tank (filter, pump, light etc) are sufficient for a 10-20 gallon tank. The larger the tank the easier it is to keep healthy fish. The actual tank is the least expensive purchase. If all you can afford is your 1 1/2 gallon tank then investin a large pitcher and let the water stand for a day and change at least half the water regularly. Everything is easier with a larger tank.
