What skills do the workers have?
Southwestern Virginia has a well-educated, well-trained, responsive workforce. Three universities, ten colleges, and two higher education centers graduate hundreds of qualified, technically adept students each year with graduate and undergraduate degrees in disciplines such as: biomedicine, genetics, engineering, business and information sciences. Additionally, seven community colleges produce workers with skills in computer programming, operations, information systems and networking. Many have certification in systems such as: Microsoft, Cisco, Novelle, and Oracle.
