What skills do graduates need for special libraries?
Amanda: Be assertive in promoting yourself and your library – add value! Try new things that get new people into the library. Be client focused – what are you doing for your clients? Justify yourself. Jency: Know your strengths. Take the Myers Briggs test to know yourself and how to interact with others. Confidence makes itself felt. Be calm and competent. Luke: Entrepreneurship – look at the “market” and find needs and opportunities. Erika: Take an improv class to learn how to think on your feet and in the moment. Amy: Analysis skills – you need to provide insight into what you think about the information. Draw conclusions. Teaching skills – teach people how to find information. Q: What is the hiring process for applicants? Jency: HR screens resumes then I decide. We generally receive 60 to 70 resumes and consider 45 over two rounds of interviews.
